    Dear Bengali Community of Tallahassee,

We are excited to let you know that there are several updates for this year's Durga Puja. We will celebrate this year's puja on Oct 12 (saturday) which coincides with puja in Bengal. We will do the decorations on Oct 11(Friday) evening. Given the demand of growing student body in Tallahassee, we looked for an appropriate venue. Unfortunately we were unable to secure last year's venue because we did not return it in its pristine state. After considering many options we decided to reserve Cobb Middle School located on 915 Hillcrest Street which has a big cafeteria, kitchen and large parking lot and is conveniently located in the middle of the town. A large place comes with a large price tag ($1890.00), so we have decided to increase the puja contribution for both Bengali families and students.
    Bengali family $200.00
    Postdoctoral scholars $30.00/ head (adults)
    Graduate student $25.00/head (adults)
    Guest family $30.00/head (adults)
There will be no charge for kids.

Members are encouraged to send their contributions to Debdeep Pati at the following address-
2350 Phillips Road, Apt. 5108, Tallahassee, FL 32308

Since there are only 15 Bengali families organizing such an event is impossible without student participation. EC would like to have names of the students (President and Vice President) by Aug 15th along with names of student participant for following events. Once we receive the names we would like to sit down with new President and Vice President of the student body.

Unfortunately several Bengali families will be enjoying puja in Bengal so we will need families and students to volunteer to organize following events as well. Please send your names to EC if you want to organize in the event.
    1. Decoration
    2. Food-Lunch
    3. Food-Dinner
    4. Cultural event
    5. Cleaning

We would also like to know if you are inviting guests outside the Bengali community. Please send us their email address so that we can formally invite them.
We would like to have your input in every aspect. So please feel free to contact EC members. We will have a general body meeting when the event draws closer.

    Thank you.
    EC President and members

The protimas had to be removed from the original shipping boxes in the process of transferring them to permanent storage boxes. We took the opportunity to take some pictures that may be used to publicize this year's Durga Puja, The pictures are available at the following link:

Protima was delivered on June 7th @ 4 pm by the carrier we hired to pickup and deliver from the bonded warehouse in Jacksonville. The three boxes have been stored at the Das, Sinha and Hegde residences respectively. Thanks to everyone for their contributions towards achieving this goal that was set in November of last year.

The shipment reached New York, passed customs examination and is now on its way to Jacksonville by truck. I spoke with the agent (Airvan) in Jacksonville who will receive it and keep it in a their bonded warehouse. They informed us that we have to hire a customs broker to process customs clearance. We subsequently contacted such an agent in Jacksonville and they will do the clearance for a fee (big surprise!). The only thing we don't know is if we will have to pay any US customs import duty - even if we do we are hoping it will be minimal.

If the truck reaches Jacksonville on May 30th or so as expected, we can go get the murti in the first week of June.
